The New Carnival Company CIC

The New Carnival Company is a professional arts development organisation specialising in the production and delivery of high quality outdoor arts events. Central to all our work is the involvement of local individuals and communities in the planning, the creative process and the presentation or performance of these events.

The New Carnival Company has five core staff – these include CEO, Creative Director, Business Manager and a Creative Team. To support our wider programme we employ freelance teachers and tutors, who have a range of artistic and creative skills. This provides valuable employment in a rurally disadvantaged and isolated island that is heavily dependent on a short summer holiday season for economic stability. To further support our work we have developed a network of project volunteers. On a weekly basis volunteers attend our studio where we offer training in a variety of artistic endeavours – from mask making to dance and using a sewing machine to fabric painting. These sessions are free and we provide all refreshments for everyone. Our volunteers are then supported to take a more active role in  programmes, supporting activities in school and community settings. Personal confidences are significantly enhanced.

The NCC obtain core funding from Arts Council England and as a National portfolio organisation are required to provide a high quality artistic experience to people and organisation we work with. The company tenders for specific work from local government sources both at the regional and town levels. The Isle of Wight Adult & Community Learning Service fund us to deliver learning activities in disadvantaged communities where there is little history or enthusiasm for continued learning.

Community development is at our heart and the whole team from core staff, freelance teachers and volunteers share the same passion – to use art and culture to bring people of all backgrounds and abilities to build and sustain a vibrant and dynamic society.
